NHSX statement on Dame Fiona Caldicott
It is with great sadness that NHSX has learnt of the death of Dame Fiona Caldicott, National Data Guardian for Health and Social Care.
Matthew Gould, Chief Executive of NHSX, said:
“We owe Dame Fiona a great debt of gratitude. She leaves an extraordinary legacy in the guidance and structures she brought into being across health and care. She tackled the thorniest of subjects with wisdom, kindness and skill. Over a quarter of a century, she worked unceasingly on behalf of the public, taking the NHS on a journey that has left us dramatically more aware of the importance of patient privacy, and more able to make safe use of data to improve care. We have lost a decent and consequential leader, and my team and I have lost a treasured colleague and friend. My team and I send our love to Robert, Lucy and the whole family.”
