This accessibility statement applies to the content published on the transform.england.nhs.uk domain.

This website is run by NHS England Transformation Directorate, content formerly branded as NHSX. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• use your web browser to change colours, contrast levels and fonts
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

• Some pages and document attachments are not written in plain English.
• Not all of the text will reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window.
• Some documents have poor colour contrast.
• Some heading elements are not consistent.
• Some content blocks containing videos do not have descriptive, meaningful titles.
• Some images do not have appropriate image descriptions.
• Some links do not properly describe where they go.
• You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text.
• Some documents are in PDF format and are not fully accessible.

We are currently doing an audit of this website making sure it meets the accessibility regulations. We will update the statement when issues are fixed or when we expect them to be fixed.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Viewing our website when magnified

When zoomed in at 400% or viewed on a mobile phone, some of our pages that have long links or long email addresses either get cut off or the page gets shifted the side. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow.

We plan to shorten some of the written content to make sure that all content is readable when zoomed in and on all screen sizes.

Video titles

There are YouTube videos embedded on our website that don't include a descriptive, meaningful and unique title within the frame. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value.

We are restricted by how we can customise YouTube videos to make them accessible but we are investigating solutions which would add compliant frame titles to all videos. 

PDFs

Our website includes some older PDFs with colour contrast that makes it difficult for some people to see the content properly. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).
We plan to replace all non-compliant PDFs and will ensure that any future PDF we upload will be fully compliant with accessibility regulations.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Videos without audio

We have two videos embedded on our page of apps and tools for patient care which include content that is presented by video only with no audio. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix videos that were published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. 

Any new video content we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are actively looking to improve the accessibility on our website.

By the end of January 2021 we plan to have resolved the problem of the way video titles are displayed.

We are reviewing our policy on PDFs and other methods of delivering information with a view to making them as accessible as possible. We will finish this review by the end of February 2021 to ensure we are only publishing accessible documents.

We are reviewing the content of our website to improve the accessibility of pages with issues with headings, link text and image descriptions.
