Video conferencing technology in primary and secondary care

We are working with NHS England to support the continued deployment and effective implementation of video consultations across primary and secondary care. This will make sure that many more people can receive safe and effective care without having to travel to their GP practice, hospital or clinic.

We supported the rapid deployment of video consultations across primary care by establishing a team of staff to support implementation on the ground.  They had access to the latest advice and tools, such as information on procurement through the DPS Framework or through the DCS GP IT Futures framework and the implementation of remote total triage, as well as this blog on the GOV.UK site which was written to support rapid implementation at the time.

Video consultations are also proving to be effective and convenient in secondary care. To support rapid and safe implementation we have shared a Global Digital Exemplar blueprint  from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London. In the blueprint the Trust describes how they achieved safe and rapid implementation of video consultations across several outpatient settings. 

Rapid scaling of video solutions was also the focus of this blog published on the Royal College of Physicians website, in which David Probert, Chief Executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, shared the hospital's experiences. 

We have also helped to promote COVID-19 related training materials and FAQs to patients to further support implementation among trusts and their staff.
